DHAKAcrashbandicootpurpleripto'srampage, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's inflation cooled slightly in June but still hovered around the double-digit mark as consumer prices persistently stayed high.

Bangladesh's inflation decreased to 9.72 percent in June from 9.89 percent in Maycrashbandicootpurpleripto'srampage, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The Consumer Price Index released by the BBS showed that food inflation eased slightly to 10.42 percent in June from 10.76 percent in the previous month.

Inflation for non-food items edged down to 9.15 percent in June from 9.19 percent in March, the data showed.

The country's average inflation, however, surged to 9.73 percent in the fiscal year 2023-24 (July 2023-June 2024) much higher than the budgetary target of 7.5 percent for the fiscal. In the previous 2022-23 fiscal year, overall inflation was 9.02 percent.

The Bangladeshi parliament on June 30 passed a record 7.97-trillion-taka (68 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The inflation rate which was announced at 6.5 percent for 2024-25 fiscal year during the budget proposal on June 6 has been revised to 6 percent.
