ISLAMABADbasketballmachine, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Saturday reported the 12th polio case of 2024 after a child was diagnosed as having been affected by the poliovirus.
The infected child belongs to the Chakwal district of eastern Punjab province, the Pakistani Health Ministry said in a late-night statement.
This was the first case of the year so far from Punjab, which is the most developed and the largest province, in terms of population, of the South Asian country, it added.
Ayesha Raza Farooq, the prime minister's focal person for the anti-polio campaign, expressed concerns on the detection of a patient from Punjab.
Pakistan Polio Eradication Program is starting a comprehensive investigation of the case, and on the basis of it, a strategy would be devised for future eradication campaigns in the district, she was quoted as saying in a statement.■
